Take the Wrong Turn. Find the Right Story.❤️

What’s the best way to explore a new city?

Don’t Visit a New City. Get Lost in It. The best way to explore a new city?

Don’t follow the map too closely.

On my first morning in a new city, I like to do something slightly rebellious,I pick a direction and walk.

No checklist.
No “must-see” monument.
No rushing from one attraction to another just to collect photographs.

I’m always drawn to the city’s interiors, the quiet lanes, old neighbourhoods, and little corners where its real character lives.

I follow the smell of fresh bread from a tiny bakery. I stop when I hear music coming from a street corner. I peek into little shops, sit in a crowded café, and watch strangers hurry past as if they have somewhere terribly important to be.

Sometimes, I take the wrong turn. And that’s usually when the city introduces itself properly.

Because a city isn’t just its famous buildings. It’s the old woman watering plants on her balcony, the bookseller who remembers your face, the child chasing pigeons in a square, and the little restaurant where nobody speaks your language but everyone smiles.

My favourite souvenirs aren’t always the things I buy.

Sometimes they’re conversations with strangers.
Sometimes they’re the taste of something I’ve never tried.
Sometimes they’re a street I could never find again.

So, when you visit a new city, leave a little room to get lost.

The best stories often begin where the map ends.

“Don’t just collect places; collect the little moments that make a place unforgettable.”

  1. I agree about leaving the map behind sometimes. The best part of a new city can be the bit you never planned to see. And coming home with one story you never expected is better than a phone full of tourist photos. 😊
