How does your mindset affect your financial success?
I sometimes think my wallet has a better understanding of my personality than I do.
It knows when I am being sensible.
It also knows when I have had a βI deserve thisβ moment. π
You know the moment I mean.
You see something lovely and your mind immediately starts negotiating:
βDo I really need it?β
Then another voice says,
βNeed? No. But wouldn’t life be happier with it?β
And somehow, the second voice usually wins!
For a long time, I thought financial success was mostly about earning more. But the older I get, the more I realise that what happens inside our head can be just as important as what comes into our bank account.
Someone can earn a lot and still constantly feel short of money.
Someone else may earn less but save patiently, avoid unnecessary spending and slowly build a comfortable life.
The difference is often not the size of the income.
It’s the mindset behind it.
When we stop comparing our lives with everyone else’s, we make better decisions.
When we stop buying things simply because βeveryone has one,β our bank balance gets a little happier.
And when we stop thinking, βI know nothing about money,β and start learning, even little by little ,we become more confident.
I’ve also realised that saving money doesn’t mean saying βnoβ to everything.
It means knowing which things deserve a yes.
A cup of coffee? Yes.
That dress I absolutely don’t need but somehow cannot live without? Hmmβ¦ let’s discuss this with my wallet first! π
Because money isn’t just about numbers.
It’s about choices, habits, emotions and sometimes the stories we tell ourselves.
Perhaps financial success doesn’t begin when we earn our first big paycheck.
Perhaps it begins when we change the conversation in our own head.
And maybe, just maybe, my wallet has been trying to tell me that all along.
I was simply too busy shopping to listen. π
βFinancial success begins when we change the conversation in our own head.β
