What’s a song that changed your life?
Music is a wonderful companion. Sometimes it lifts our spirits, sometimes it takes us down memory lane, and sometimes it quietly teaches us lessons that even the best motivational speakers struggle to explain.
Today, I want to revisit a beautiful old Bollywood classic, “Aage Bhi Jaane Na Tu” from the movie Waqt.
It’s one of those songs that makes you stop whatever you’re doing and listen. And if you’re doing the dishes, well, perhaps they can wait another three minutes.
Let’s look at the beautiful thoughts hidden in this song.
1. Living in the present
आगे भी जाने न तू, पीछे भी जाने न तू, जो भी है बस यही एक पल है।
What does it mean?
Don’t get too busy worrying about the future or keep looking back at the past. The moment you have right now is precious.
But honestly, our minds rarely cooperate.
We’re either remembering something embarrassing we said twenty years ago or worrying about something that hasn’t even happened yet.
Sometimes I wonder whether our brains have an off button. If they do, mine has clearly misplaced the instruction manual.
Meanwhile, the present is patiently waiting for us to notice it.
The life lesson: Enjoy today. Don’t postpone happiness until everything is perfect. That day might be stuck in traffic!
2. Life is full of uncertainties
अनजाने सायों का राहों में डेरा है,
अनदेखी बाहों ने हम सब को घेरा है।
What does it mean?
There are unknown shadows along our journey, and unseen forces surround us. In other words, life is full of uncertainties. We don’t know what lies around the next corner or what tomorrow has planned for us.
We can plan our holidays, organise our wardrobes, prepare our monthly budgets and even make a detailed grocery list.
But can we predict what life will throw at us next?
Not really.
We make plans as though life is sitting somewhere with a diary, waiting for our instructions. Unfortunately, life doesn’t even bother checking our calendar.
Sometimes the most carefully planned day ends with an unexpected surprise. And sometimes the best memories come from things we never planned at all.
The life lesson: Accept that uncertainty is part of life. We cannot control every twist and turn, but we can choose how we respond to it.
3. Don’t waste the beautiful moments
ये पल उजाला है, बाकी अँधेरा है,
ये पल गँवाना ना, ये पल ही तेरा है।
What does it mean?
This moment is like a ray of light in the darkness. Don’t let it slip away because this moment belongs to you.
What a beautiful thought!
We often take ordinary moments for granted. A family meal, a spontaneous phone call with an old friend, a walk in the garden, laughter over silly jokes or simply sitting together without having anything important to discuss.
We keep waiting for big celebrations to feel happy, forgetting that happiness often arrives in very ordinary packages.
Sometimes we are so busy capturing the perfect picture that we forget to enjoy the moment we’re photographing!
The life lesson: Treasure the little moments. They may look ordinary today, but tomorrow they could become your favourite memories.
4. Don’t keep postponing your dreams
जीने वाले सोच ले, यही वक़्त है कर ले पूरी आरज़ू
What does it mean?
If you want to truly live, think about what matters to you. This is the time to fulfil your wishes and pursue your dreams.
We are experts at postponing things
I’ll start exercising next Monday. I’ll learn something new next year. I’ll meet that old friend soon. I’ll travel when I have more time.
And somehow, Monday keeps changing.
We keep saying, “I’ll do it someday.” I sometimes wonder whether Someday is actually a place where all our postponed dreams have gone to retire.
Of course, responsibilities are real. We cannot abandon everything and disappear on a holiday to Switzerland. But surely we can make a little room for the things that make us happy.
That forgotten hobby, that unfinished book, that long-pending visit or even learning to dance without worrying about who is watching.
Don’t let your dreams remain permanently on your to-do list. Start somewhere, however small.
Perhaps , this song reminds me of that life is not about having complete control over yesterday or tomorrow. It is about making the best of the moment we have.
Learn from the past, prepare for the future, but don’t forget to enjoy the present.
After all, we spend so much time saving things for special occasions that sometimes we forget to make an ordinary day special.
So, let’s not forget to live today while waiting for tomorrow.
After all, life isn’t a waiting room.

One response to “🎵 Aage Bhi Jaane Na Tu… A Little Song, A Lot of Life!”
I enjoyed this. Your bit about the brain revisiting embarrassing moments from twenty years ago while worrying about tomorrow made me smile. We seem to have mastered the art of being anywhere except where we are! And that song is a lovely reminder to give the present a little attention.
