My Life Philosophy: Plan Less, Laugh More, Panic Occasionally.

* “I have stopped trying to control life. Frankly, life doesn’t listen!” *

If you had to sum up your life philosophy in one sentence, what would it be?

If I had to sum up my life philosophy in one sentence, it would be:

“Do your best, expect the unexpected, laugh at the nonsense and never argue with a person who has more free time than you.”

I haven’t always followed this philosophy, of course. There were days when I planned everything down to the last detail. Life would look at my carefully prepared schedule, burst out laughing and throw a completely different set of instructions at me.

I’ve slowly learnt that life is not an examination where we must get every answer right. Sometimes you simply have to guess, make a few mistakes and hope there isn’t negative marking.

I believe in being kind, but not so kind that people start treating you like a free customer-care service. I believe in forgiving, but I also believe in remembering certain lessons. After all, even a pressure cooker whistles when enough is enough.

I don’t chase perfection anymore. My house doesn’t always look like a magazine cover, my plans don’t always work, and occasionally my memory behaves like an employee who has quietly resigned without informing anyone.

But who cares?

I’d rather have a good laugh over a silly mistake than spend the evening regretting it. I’d rather collect happy memories than worry about impressing people who are probably too busy worrying about themselves.

Life is too unpredictable to spend every minute being serious. There will be disappointments, unexpected expenses, irritating people and days when absolutely nothing goes according to plan.

So, my philosophy is simple:

Be good, but don’t be a doormat. Dream big, but keep your expectations flexible. Laugh at yourself, because life is already doing a pretty good job of that.

And most importantly, never lose your sense of humour.

It may not solve every problem, but at least it makes the problems wonder why you aren’t taking them seriously.

  1. Intetesting idea of not arguing with someone who has more free time than us. That may be the most practical life lesson here! We spend so much time trying to make life cooperate with our plans that we forget to enjoy the time we have. Perhaps wisdom begins when we stop expecting life to play along. Well written.
