Whatβs one thing you own that holds deep sentimental value?
What’s one thing you own that holds deep sentimental value?
Some people treasure diamonds, some keep old photographs, and some hold on to gifts from loved ones.
Me? I have a tiny little bag containing a βΉ10 coin and a few grains of rice. And no, I’m not starting a grocery shop! π
Let me tell you why.
One day, my cousin and I went shopping. We shopped as if the shops were going to disappear the next morning. By evening, our feet were protesting, our energy had vanished, and even our shopping bags seemed heavier than our life decisions.
We finally collapsed at a crowded roadside tea stall.
Amid the chatter, clinking cups, and people happily munching on snacks, a few transgender people were sitting nearby. One of them looked at me and smiled.
Honestly, I felt a little nervous. I don’t know why we sometimes feel uncomfortable around people who are simply different from us.
But somehow, I smiled back.
As we waited for our tea, I noticed that she was still looking towards me. Feeling a little awkward, I gestured towards the stall, asking if she would like some tea.
She said nothing. She simply smiled.
Soon, our tea and snacks arrived, and my cousin and I became busy discussing the day’s shopping adventures. We completely forgot about everything else.
A little later, I glanced towards their seats. They had left.
Strangely, I felt relieved. I returned to my tea, unaware that the most unforgettable moment of my day was still waiting for me.
Suddenly, the same person appeared beside my table.
Before I could understand what was happening, she gently took my hand, placed something in my palm, and said, “Keep it in your purse.”
Then she blessed me with prayers in her own words and disappeared into the crowd.
I sat there, stunned.
When I opened my palm, I found a βΉ10 coin and a few grains of rice.
My cousin burst into laughter. Apparently, I had received a blessing while she had received nothing except a bill for the tea.
But I carefully put the little gift away in my purse.
Later, I placed it in a tiny bag to keep it safe.
And here’s the part that still makes me smile: my purse has never seemed to stay empty since that day.
Now, I cannot prove whether the little gift brought me good luck or whether it was simply a beautiful coincidence. But in my heart, I have always associated it with blessings, abundance, and a moment of unexpected kindness.
When I told my family, everyone was amazed. Suddenly, my little bag became the most desirable thing in the house!
People who had never shown the slightest interest in my purse were now practically applying for ownership of its contents. π
But I refused to part with it.
How could I?
That little coin reminds me of a stranger who smiled at me when I was still busy feeling nervous about her. She approached me with kindness, placed a humble gift in my hand, and left me with a memory that has stayed with me for years.
Perhaps the real blessing wasn’t the money or the rice. Perhaps it was the reminder that kindness can arrive from the most unexpected places, wearing a face we may have been too quick to misunderstand.
Today, that tiny bag holds much more than a βΉ10 coin and a few grains of rice. It holds a beautiful memory, a little mystery, and my personal belief in unexpected blessings.
My family still hopes I will hand it over to them. But I’m sorry, dear family, this treasure is strictly non-transferable! π
After all, why should I risk disturbing my good luck just to make someone else happy?

The greatest blessings in life do not come wrapped in gold; they arrive quietly, through people we may have never truly understood.
What makes this little coin precious is not the promise of good fortune, but the transformation it has brought to your perspective. Sometimes, the Divine teaches us profound lessons through the most unexpected souls, reminding us that the worth of a blessing lies not in the hands that offer it, but in the purity of the heart that receives it.
Faith does not always need proof, for some experiences are meant not to be explained, but to be cherished. And perhaps the most beautiful blessing that stranger left with you was this: the ability to look beyond outward differences and recognise the humanity that connects us all.
Keep that little treasure safe not merely as a symbol of abundance, but as a reminder that kindness has no prescribed appearance, grace knows no boundaries, and the Divine may choose the most unexpected paths to touch our lives.
After all, true wealth is not what we possess in our purses, but what remains alive in our hearts.

This post brings back many wonderful memories Meetaji. I have shared beautiful moments with hijras ever since childhood.
Although I was afraid of them as a little girl, the fear melted away and I recognised them for their pure love. Something about them always attracts me to them and I always give them money. In exchange they have blessed me a million times.
One episode that is very special occured last year when I saw the most beautiful hijra Inhave ever laid eyes on. There was something so grounding about her, that I went to her, removed my footwear and fell to her feet to take blessings. She was obviously surprised and gave me a 2 rupees coin after blessing the coin in her own unique way. That coin now rests in my purse with a piece of citrine. And as you said, my purse has never been empty since then. When I am in need, I always receive.
Your post took me back to that day that I have been thinking about in the past week or so. Serendipity? We are two very lucky and very blessed women Meetaji! Thank you for such a poignant yet funny post. I loved it!!
