I Thought I Was Raising Them… Until I Realised They Were Raising Me🌸

Which relationship has taught you the most about yourself?

If someone asked me which relationship has taught me the most about myself, I wouldn’t have to think for long.

Being their mother.

I entered motherhood thinking I would be the teacher.

I would teach them how to behave, how to make good choices, how to handle life, how to be strong.

I was wrong.

Somewhere along the way, they became my teachers.

They taught me patience on the days when nothing went according to plan. They taught me that sometimes the best way to handle a situation is to stop trying to control it.

They taught me to listen.

Not every problem needed my advice. Sometimes they simply needed me to sit beside them and say, “I understand.”

And then came the lessons that were harder to learn.

Apologising.

There were moments when I was wrong. Being a mother didn’t make me right all the time. I had to learn that saying “I’m sorry” doesn’t make you smaller it makes the relationship stronger.

My children also showed me a kind of strength I didn’t know I possessed.

There were nights I felt exhausted, worried, or completely unsure of what to do. Yet somehow, the next morning, I got up and carried on.

Perhaps that is one of motherhood’s quietest gifts ,you discover strength only when someone you love needs you to find it.

And then there is love.

The strange, beautiful kind that doesn’t keep accounts.

You give, you worry, you wait, you forgive, you celebrate their smallest victories as if they were your own.

But motherhood also taught me something I wish every mother could hear:

You don’t have to be a perfect mother to be a good one.

I have made mistakes. I have lost my patience. I have said the wrong thing. I have worried too much and sometimes tried to protect them from things they needed to experience themselves.

But I also learned.

And perhaps that’s what makes motherhood so beautiful.

You think you are raising children…

until one day you realise they have been raising you too.

They didn’t just teach me how to be their mother.

They taught me who I am.

“I thought I was raising my children. I didn’t realise, all those years, they were quietly raising me too.” ❤️
