The Day I’d Relive Again and Again

If you could relive one day from your past, which day would it be and why?

We spend so much energy planning ‘special’ days, when the best ones usually just sneak up on us, unannounced, and leave before we even realize how good they were.”

If I could relive one day from my life, it wouldn’t be some big, fancy occasion. No wedding, no graduation, no trophy moment.

It would be one random summer evening from when I was a kid.

Nothing special was planned. The power had gone out, so there was no TV, no fan, nothing to “do.” My cousins and I ended up sitting outside on an old cot, staring at the sky, trying to count stars we kept losing track of.

Someone told a ghost story that wasn’t even scary, but we all screamed anyway, just for fun. My grandmother came out with a plate of mangoes, cut messily, juice running down our hands. Someone’s dog kept trying to steal a piece and we kept pretending to be shocked every single time, like it hadn’t happened five times already.

We laughed about nothing. Actual nothing. The kind of laughing where your stomach hurts and you can’t even explain to anyone else why it’s funny.

At some point, the lights came back on, and just like that, the magic was gone. Everyone went back inside. Phones came out. The moment ended as quietly as it started.

I didn’t know it then, but that plain, powerless evening would end up being one of my favorite memories  better than birthdays, better than any planned trip.

Funny how that works. We spend so much energy planning “special” days, when the best ones usually just sneak up on us, unannounced, and leave before we even realize how good they were.

Mememeroble version of that evening. the small, unplanned day would  give anything to live again.

    • Thank you so much for saying that genuinely means a lot ๐Ÿ˜Š And you’re so right about phones. It’s strange how something built to “connect” us often does the opposite. That’s honestly why evenings like the one in the post feel so rare and special now โ€” no screens, just people, mangoes, and stars. Glad it brought back that feeling for you too!

  1. Wow, what a gorgeous reflection. Laughing until your stomach hurts over ‘actual nothing’ is the highest peak of human happiness. This is a beautiful reminder that the best days aren’t planned, they are just stumbled into. Love this.
