The Last Movie That Made Me Cry Was.. The Pursuit of Happyness

What’s the last movie that made you cry?

Some movies make you cry because they are sad.

The Pursuit of Happyness made me cry for a completely different reason.

I knew the ending. I knew the struggle would eventually lead somewhere. And yet, watching Chris Gardner walk through those difficult days with his little son beside him, I found myself holding back tears.

Perhaps because there are moments in life when you don’t need a hero.

You just need one more reason not to give up.

What touched me most wasn’t the success at the end. It was everything that came before itβ€”the humiliation, uncertainty, sleepless nights, closed doors, and the quiet determination to keep moving when life gave him very little to hold on to.

And that scene with his son…

That stayed with me.

Maybe I wasn’t crying for Chris Gardner.

Maybe I was crying for every parent who has ever smiled at their child while secretly worrying about tomorrow.

For everyone who has struggled silently.

For everyone who kept going without knowing whether things would actually get better.

That’s the strange magic of cinema.

Sometimes we don’t cry because a character is suffering.

We cry because somewhere in their struggle, we recognise a little bit of ourselves.

What movie made you cry when you least expected it?

β€œSometimes the tears we shed for a movie are really for the battles we have fought silently in our own lives.”

  1. This was a movie that had me crying too. Will Smith was amazing and that kid, took my breath away. That bathroom scene was heartbreaking. But the biggest takeaway was how inspiring the journey was. When you let nothing break you, you are bound to rise to the peak! It gave me the inspiration to keep going no matter what. Thank you for writing about this movie. Such a happy reminder to put in the work and never give up!
