Who is the fictional character you relate to the most?
When someone asks which fictional character I relate to the most, they expect a superhero, a fearless detective, or someone who saves the world before breakfast.
But my answer is much quieter.
It’s Samwise Gamgee from The Lord of the Rings.
Not because he was the strongest. He wasn’t.
Not because he was the smartest. He wasn’t that either.
I relate to Sam because he kept going when life became unbearably heavy. He didn’t need the spotlight. He simply showed up, carried hope when others couldn’t, and reminded us that kindness is a form of courage.
Most of us aren’t the main characters in dramatic adventures.
We’re the people packing lunches, answering late-night phone calls, checking in on friends, paying bills, caring for family, and quietly holding everything together. The world rarely applauds those moments, yet they matter more than we realize.
That’s why Sam feels real.
He teaches us that bravery isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s choosing to keep walking, even when the road is long.
Maybe the fictional character you relate to says something about the life you’re living not the one you dream of, but the one you’re building every single day.
“You don’t have to be the hero to make a difference. Sometimes the kindest heart changes the whole story.”

One response to “The Fictional Character I Relate to the Most Isn’t the Hero”
I absolutely adore Samwise Gamjee! One of the best characters written and one of the most memorable too. I can relate because he kept going when he could have just as easily given up. Frodo achieved whatever he did because Sam had his back. He is the kind of friend we all need!
Also we share the same thought through our relatable characters with inherent quiet courage. You with Sam and me with Piglet. We have something in common there!
