What’s something you used to believe as a kid that seems ridiculous now?
Have you ever looked back at something you believed as a kid and thought, “What on earth was I thinking?”
Well, here’s mine.
When I was little, I was absolutely convinced that the moon was following me.
Every time we drove home at night, I’d look out the car window, and there it was, quietly hanging in the sky, keeping pace with us.
We’d turn left? The moon turned left.
We’d speed up? Somehow, the moon kept up.
We’d stop at a traffic light? Yep… the moon stopped too.
At first, I thought it was kind of cool. Out of all the people in the world, the moon had clearly chosen me.
But then… it got a little creepy.
I’d secretly peek out the bedroom window before going to sleep just to make sure it wasn’t still watching.
Spoiler alert: it usually was.
I never told anyone because I thought adults already knew about the “following moon” and just weren’t concerned. Looking back, that logic is hilarious.
Years later, I discovered it was simply an optical illusion caused by how incredibly far away the moon is.
No secret mission. No moon obsession. No cosmic stalker.
Just science.
Still, I kind of miss believing the universe had singled me out for a nightly escort home. Childhood has a funny way of turning ordinary things into magical adventures.
Now it’s your turn.
What’s one ridiculous thing you genuinely believed as a kid? Drop it in the comments—I promise I won’t judge (unless you also thought the moon was stalking you). 🌙😂
